All We Have To Fear… by Jungle Pete Corradino

Arachnids with web spinning architectural prowess
Long-legged daddies with eight legs more or less
Brown furred mammalians with leathery wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Snakes striped with colors that will kill-a-fella
Turtles accused of passing salmonella
Poisonous ivy that desperately clings
These are a few of my favorite things

Aquatic finned creatures with razor sharp gnashers
Thundering, bumbling, honeycomb crashers
Well armored grubbers with nine banded rings
These are a few of my favorite things

When people fear them
When they kill them
This makes me mad
Please would you respect my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad

Okay, so I am fairly new to the whole nature exploration, journaling, identifying thing, but what is there to fear from armadillos? I realize that was not the point of your post, but you do have my curiosity piqued. My personal fear is earwigs. People say that they do not really climb in your ears, but that is all lies, I tell you! I had one crawl in my ear while I was asleep. Since then, well I leave earwigs alone outside, but if they come inside…sorry, but I freak out and I think you would too if you had woken up one night thinking that you had water in your ear, only to shake out an earwig. I also seem to attract earwigs. During the fall, when they start invading our house, they will be on my pillow and no one else’s, they climb into my bath towels an no one else’s, hence I have developed a habit of shaking out my towel before using it, and the other day, I was lying on a beanbag chair, reading a book, when an earwig crawled right up on my book, in the middle of the page! I was like, “What the hell?!?!? First of all, what do you think you are, a cat? Second of all, I wish you and your kind would just leave me alone!” Seriously, there are some weird earwig shenanigans going on in my house!
